Do they use the same change key as the safe locks or do they have there own??

The have their own change key. It is a bit smaller than the normal change keys. However, if you're handy, you can make your own change key (I don't advise this however, because I've had home-made change keys break off in the wheel pack).

Squelch, that's a pretty disappointing result. Crank up the power!

My local locksmith was very helpful and gave me a few change keys for free. Apparantly he does a lot of safe work for the Pentagon.

Unfortunately the 8077 was designed so after you passed the combination change check point, the combination was
unable to be recovered. It was commonly used on confidential level classified but its most common use now is on
SIPERNET connection boxes where interent enters a classified area. It is not deisgned to be taken apart or serviced.
That would void the integrity of the lock.

Since it was desigend for Uncles specs it is pricey for a padlock. 360+ USD. But chepaer than the 833C at 1500+USD

Since you got it to that point it is possible you may be able to salvage it. Possibly half of the numbers have been done to the
opening versus change index... Possibly you reset it to the OLD combaintaion. [I've seen it happen before]
Possibly you have thr right numbers but thr dialing sequence is off.

PM if you still have it and wanna ship it.. I'll take a look at it and see what happens.

The OP sent me the lock already and I'm scheduling another radiographic attack in the new year, this time at an industrial facility, vs. a high jacked medical unit.

Cool!

Since the lock has metallic wheels and was not designed to thwart a radiologoical attack
it should work albeit an unusual method of opening.

Spin the dial 5-6 times in one direction and record the number you stop on for the shot.
Take a pic from the front and back. The chrome case may cause a reflction from the front
but with the shoe off the back may make a nice background to enhance the back shot.

Make sure to wear the lead suit and aluminum foil hat!

as for the aluminum hat, I put that on the second I saw you were from govt heavy Virginia

I just noticed a few days ago, on the KEEDEX Corp site that they have safe change keys on those folding handles that are sometimes used for a set of allen wrenches.

I just managed to bugger up my change combo procedure, and remove the key, and not have the new combo work.

Thankfully I still had that stupid key window open, so I scoped it for about 10 mins- got all the gates lined up, and now I'm gonna take another crack @ it.

Follow the instructions here http://www.wheelpost.com/Documents_PDF/8077reset.pdf . If you don't have one of the reset tools I came up with a quick 5 min solution for you.

Take a 6d finishing nail. This ones 2" long but any one that's long enough should do.

Give it a bend.

Then file the head square until it fits, It'll probably be just about down to the diameter of the nail. Next to the reset tool is my homemade change key. If anyone is curious its made out of 1/8" key stock. The thinner side is filed down to fit 8077 and 8088 and the thicker side was my original 6700 change key but I've since found a proper one.
