I just finished the Penn Foster course. I thought it was pretty thorough, however, both professional locksmiths I approached stated that I learned about 10% of what I need to be an actual locksmith.
I agree, but you have to start somewhere. I have heard good words about Foley-Belsaw, as well.
Bill Philips' books have helped me a great deal too!
