Penn-Foster?

What do you think about Penn-Foster?

It's not a bad course, but Foley-Belsaw is better value for money. The latter provides more topics & tools and a much better key machine. I've taken both courses and learned much more from FB.

I just finished the Penn Foster course. I thought it was pretty thorough, however, both professional locksmiths I approached stated that I learned about 10% of what I need to be an actual locksmith.

I agree, but you have to start somewhere. I have heard good words about Foley-Belsaw, as well.

Bill Philips' books have helped me a great deal too!

What did you get when you completed Penn Foster?

So far, a Certificate and my key machine will be here on 28 Jan. The gave me a file set, lock picks, a group of blanks and locks and a disc tumbler without the plate so I could see the inner workings. It was part of my first practical, but they returned it with my grade.

I'm still waiting for the packet with all the information in it to arrive at my house but I am for sure going to sign up for Penn-Foster and Foley-Belsaw.

I took the FB course back around 2006 and I'm glad I did cos when I was nearing the end of the course they offered me a subscription to The National Locksmith magazine. It pales in comparison to The Independant Locksmith Journal but still useful to have. Plus FB is recognized by ALOA as a legitimate locksmith course.

Well when you said their was stickies about Penn Foster I assumed you meant that the stickies were going to have the words Penn Foster somewhere in the title. I guess that's what I get for assuming. Most of the search's are from this topic and one I started a while back specifically about Penn Foster and Foley Belsaw.
