Delrin Bump Hammer.

Delrin Bump Hammer.

Postby Magic1 » 8 Feb 2010 15:29

This is the first bump hammer I made from Delrin. The first had a double thickness head that was too heavy and caused 'follow through' on the strike. The second one below is exactly right for me. The head is 30 x 35 x 10 mm. The handle is 280 x 19.0 x 5 mm thick.

Derlin is a form of nylon plastic commonly used by NASA. It is very high quality and inexpensive to manufacture, stands up real well in extreme cold or heat.

Isn't Delrin also the material combo wheel packs are made of to provide radiological attack resistance, or do I have the wrong word?

where did you get the delrin? do they sell it at hardware stores, or did you use a cutting board made of it?

Genuine DELRIN sheet may be purchased WW Grainger, a industrial supplier, with many US locations.

The material they stock includes 3/8 thk. stk, slightly thinner than the OP specified 10 mm. but the $70 or so
US dolllars one spends for a good sized panel will make a arm-full of hammers. Spares to sell ?--if legal where you are.

PM me if you want spec. contact info.

Delrin is more ridgid than Nylon. It is also resistant to radiologic imaging ( as in X-rays of safe locking componets) but
the material is supceptiable to imaging via nutron bombardment techniques.
