Something quite interesting (Lock forensics)

Postby JonathanEricLopez » 3 Mar 2010 0:56

For all of you interested I found a great site showing the forensics on locks and how things like bumping, impressioning, pick-guns, and normal picks leave traces of evidence either left on the pins themselves or even the cylinder. They give great pictures of close ups on the individual pins when picking locks.... I just thought it was totally interesting. Tell me what you think..

Use links on the left side of site to show wear for example "bumping, pick guns, etc."

Really is a great site though. You should also check out lockwiki.com sometime too.

....ack I hate it when McAfee starts updating when I'm trying to simply type something.

I did read it, just didn't know what to reply with :( I read that article you mention, too. Overall, the things you suggested are potentially possible but I don't have the equipment or expertise (I'm not so good at making things :<) to make them happen. If you want to make them and send them to me I'd be happy to test them, of course!

:) This community is big alright, but I think it is more full of quality than quantity.

This website is really interesting and we can learn a lot with it. "to much force, to much aggressive, or almost perfect"

We could and should make experiences in new locks we buy to better understand the marks we leave in the lock. Our personal pattern :)

That was very interesting indeed. I didn't give the entire site a read yet but I'll have to do that when I have some spare time to just absorb all of the knowledge that is oozing out of that site! :D No worries though there is plenty to absorb here too!

I found that site and it was interesting.Id like to than thei authors for giving me the idea of carbon fiber lock picks. I would never have though of that. A model shop sells flat strips of that stuff, and imgoing to try to make somme in a couple weeks when im off. Need info on what to cut it with though.

I found that link vai another site, though I can't remember which site now.

I like all the close up picks locks parts. I'm almost tempted to get ahold of a microscope and start pulling apart my locks to see what kind of marks I've been leaving behind.

Maybe all this info will lead to someone developing a soft-tip pick set. :)
