Shipping Costs

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Shipping Costs

I am very new. I'm looking for any help I can get at this point. Right now I have one home made pick. I was looking for some real picks to make things easier. I had a nice set picked out at lockpicktools.com. I was happy to pay a little more than $30 for a set. Shipping was over $12. I canceled my order, and bought a beginner set from bumpmylock.com. The picks were $24, shipping was $4.

I might have been happier with the set from lockpicktools, but I can't help but feel that $12 is ridiculous for shipping a 1/4 pound of picks. I am more than happy to pay for quality, but don't try and gouge me on shipping and "handling" charges. I am disappointed. I really liked the ripple handles. I'll give a review of the service I get from bumpmylock.com. I'm sure I'll be unlocking every lock on the planet like Bruce Willis in a Die Hard movie as soon as they arrive. :D

If the other site sent your picks through the USPS they broke the law. Simple as that.

Also - Rich from LPTools is a friend to some of us & this site is sponsored by an entirely different company altogether & as such we try to avoid offering free advertising to other vendors.

Yeah, US has restricted shipping on picks, i wouldn't be surprised if you get a notice from the post office alerting you that you will not be receiving your picks. Best of luck though if they are unmarked then i don't see how they would be able to check short of scanning every package. Just so you are aware though, it is legal to purchase in person, so call around town, or better yet, make your own. Hacksaw blades are of equal quality material to what you purchased, and with a good template or a good eye you can make picks better suited for you and specific locks, i have a brinks that i was messing with for some time and i found with a stiffer pick it gave me just the edge i needed to feel out the serrated pin.

& you are allowed to ship via 3rd party shippers. Just not through the USPS. Unless, of course, you are shipping to a working locksmith, security professional, LEO etc.

I just double checked LPTools - he does ship via UPS, as I expected. However, though the $12 S&H for that is reasonable, there does appear to be a problem with his shipping calculator when you add moderate quantities of individual picks to an order. I'm gonna shoot him an email.

So I just ordered a large bulk of picks from the LPTools crew. They know they have a problem with shipping on individual pick sales on their site and are trying to repair it. The shipping calculator they use has to assign a weight to every individual item and there is a minimum weight restriction so individual picks add up very quickly in the calculator's estimation. However, they actually process each order manually and apply the appropriate shipping at time of sale. If you're reticent to purchase or want to confirm the above, they have contact info on the site that connects you directly to them & so long as it's a business day, they reply to email very quickly.

No, it sounds more like a CMS issue. If they are using a canned store there should be an option to say "If $weight < $minimumWeight $weight = $minimumWeight;"

And don't go knocking PHP. That stuff rocks. :D

I think it is only allowed to ship through UPS. Maybe you should check the shipping options from the smiths. Anyway, the shipping cost might be higher that some shipping companies.
