finally spp my bedroom door

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

now before you call me a noob at lock picking wait because the lock on my bedroom door was originally from the front door of a house and it has 1 or 2 spool pins in it. today i actually took my time instead of rushing and i successfully picked it.

The Lowes I've been to only have Master locks, and for quite a steep price. I'd suggest going to places like Goodwill first. I've picked up so many locks there for ridiculously cheap prices.

check the interweb for a ReStore in your area- they are a used building supplier (think home depot, just used, or a goodwill for building stuffs) they normally have containers full, and will let you have your pickings for next to nothing. (like 2 bucks a pop)

http://www.habitatwindsor.org/index.php ... 1&Itemid=7

The ReStore is located at
3064 Devon Drive, (behind Devonshire Mall),
Windsor, ON N8X 4L2

Monday to Friday: 9am - 5pm
Saturday: 10am - 4pm
Sunday: Closed

Trust me, go there first. You will save a tonne of $$$, and get a tonne of locks.

Seriously, don't buy new locks to practice on. You can get good used high security locks on ebay for the same price as a new crappy kwikset. Or as others already posted, thrift stores, garage sales and ReStore for dirt-cheap locks.

every weekend in most towns and cities people hold estate and garage sales where often you can pick up boxes of old locks for pennies. I was at one last week where there were two huge boxes of old locks and handles, they wanted $1 for the lot.

Another persons trash can be your treasure.

I picked up 2 large steel cases (the expensive camera ones) lined inside for $5. They sell (if you can find them) for $175 each.

Got a snow blower for $3 (works great), all these off cuts of wood and various sized pieces of metal (about 50Lbs) for $2.

I have seen so many locks at these sales, I wonder why a hobbiest would go and buy new, ever.
One One was a race horse, one one won one race, one two was a racehorse, one two won one too.

congrats

...do not pick lock in use
I have picked all locks and padlocks I can find around my family house (most of them in use.. but I cant help myself .. it was "urge" :D )
Those are all pin tumbler locks , some of them with mush / spool "security" pins (as Abus..).

In fact I think that picking lock in real-world-situation (mounted in door) will give you better sense for pick as I have find on my humble experience that it is a bit easier to pick one while holding it in hand because such you can hold it comfortable and feel good bit of "feedback" through body of the lock while on lock-in-door you have to concentrate maximally to pick & tension tool feedback.

.. just keep on (and keep it legal) :D
