I'm thinking about designing a set of super slimline picks for working on locks with highly restrictive warding. To limit the bending moment in my pick, and allow for a very slim design, I would like the shank to be as short as possible.
Can anyone estimate the maximum dimension I am likely to come across between the keyway and the last pin, in say, a 7-pin pin tumbler?
I imagine I could use this as the design length of the shank for my lifter, and perhaps tack on an additional 1/8" for rakes, allowing me to bring the rake past the furthest pin.
