DIY plug spinner?

Okay so in my last post someone suggested i use a plug spinner for a lock i could only pick in the wrong direction. I really hate buying stuff online and i dont have alot of tools to make a really decent plug spinner. Does anyone know a really simple way to make a plug spinner that wont involve soldering or anything of that sort? or anything that can substitute for a plug spinner? Thanks

Use a tension wrench and elastic band, like this:



If you want something fancier, there are some good how-to guides on DIY plug spinners around the forum. Just use the search feature. Can't see why you'd need a plug spinner though, not as a hobbyist anyway.

Id rather not use a plug spinner, but im finding it absolutely impossible to pick it in the right direction when picking it the wrong way is so darn easy! sometimes i could swear ive set all 5 pins and it jsut wont turn at all.. and im only able to set the pins in the right direction when i use ALOT of tension. I just want to see if it works since i dont have the key anymore. If u could help me out on this problem without using a plug spinner it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

He just helped you out. All you really need is a tension wrench and a rubber band.

I didn't have much luck with a hair tie. The circular ones about the size of your wrist?

It took a good thick rubber band before I got consistent results.

However, maybe you're really crafty with hair ties... who knows.

I like the rubber band method too. If you don't like it though, you can make one out of the springs that come on mouse traps. Here's someone else's post detailing it:

The plug spinner on the peterson site looks like it would be easy to copy and they sell blades and springs for spare parts.

If i need to spin a plug i usually just slap my tension wrench really hard.

I think 1/5 times it doesn't spin past and hurts my hand... but seeing as i don't have to carry any tools at all to pull it off i'm not complaining.
Besides, i like repicking locks. It's less stressful the second time around =P

If it hurts your hand dont slap it. Try using the blade of a screwdriver to slap it with. I've never tried slapping my tension wrench but it sounds like it is worth a try.
