My start in lockpicking.... (PIX)

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

My start in lockpicking.... (PIX)

Postby dodo54360 » 13 May 2010 18:35

Howdy Folks !
first post, be nice !

I've been interested in lockpicking since the day that I locked myself out of my apartment. Then, a few months later, my brother had some problems with his roommate and could not get in his room because he didn't had a copy of the key.

since then, I've been learning alot from you guys, and started to make picks and practice.

I just what to show you my stuff...

first picks from hacksaw blades:

some tension wrench from windshield wipers
Image
snap pick (not alot of experience with it.
Image
after that, the bogota rake came in my life and I finally picked (raked) a lock! but....it broke :(
Image
already making some new one !
Image
I keep them in a $1 dollar glass case
Image
Image
while I was at the dollar store (Dollar Tree), I found these lil'stainless-steel-basterds!
$1 for 4 = $0.25 for 1

I've been reading also :)

next project, out of a cheap electric toothbrush, ELECTRIC PICK GUN!

that's it for now, as you can see I'm a cheap basterd, but I like to make stuff...
let me know what you think or give me some advises...

have a nice day.

great start! if i were you though i would sand those hacksaw picks down with at least 220 grit to smooth them out this will allow easier entry into locks and better feedback IMO. other than that good job and welcome to lp101 :D

Grinding down the knives is a GREAT idea. I wish I had thought of it. Quality, low cost, and probably the right metals. How does it feel in your hand?

I can't get them perfect, I don't sand them enough I think.

They feel like cheap knives, but the handle is not that bad. The only one I made is ok, still needs a little work.
The next one will be a Bogota !

Paring Knife idea is a great idea! If I didn't just get my set of Klom's I would maybe look into that myself.

the really cheap ones have the thinnest stainless blades, they also come in wood handles with brass rivets

don't forget to post some pics ! ;)
I think that they are harder to work with (make the tip, sand, file, etc...) than hacksaw or windshield wiper blades, but does it means that they will last longer?

even of you get your set, make some !

at the dollar store? haven't seen any wood handle, next time I'll look closer.
PS: I really like your rake!

It may help somebody, I just went to Target and they had the knives for $0.99 !
They were not 4 blacks, but blue, yellow, red and orange... if I recall well
Could be easy to recognize your pick,... blue snake, orange diamond, red hook, etc...
