This is the old Locksmith business info area and will be broken down to fill in the new sections below.

Corey:

KBA - Key Bitting Array: this is the chart of the entire system... When you make a certain number of combinations (change keys) when you originally install it this is what you would have used to create them... You would need this information at a later time in order to be able to follow the same logical progression sequence in assigning new change keys for rekeying existing locks or expansion of the system... You would find the bitting of the last change key in use in the chart and continue progressing new ones as needed for your rekey or expansion...

Order of Progression: This is the order in which you progress through the available bitting depths starting in chamber A and progressing through the alphabet using Total Position Progression... In this case all keys other than the TMK (underlined) which is at the top of the KBA chart are change keys... In a larger and more complex system you might progress chamber F for Grandmaster level and/or special selective master keys, using chambers E and D to create the different Master level keys and have chambers C, B & A to have a theoretical 64 change keys under each master... You would make a notation on the chart for each system as to how to use it...

As far as what you covered in class, masterkeying is taught many ways by different people using different terms of art for the methods or styles of progression... The two major methods of progression are TPP: Total Position Progression and RC: Rotating Constant...

If you need any further help with this send me a PM...

If you don't want to build a unique system yourself, you could check out Codringtons in London. They sell restricted section cylinders mastered to order so there is no 'global' master key (Anker), might be an alternative. PM me if you want their details,

Phil.
