How to pick a lock with paperclip?

Hi there,
So , I'm a newbie in this forum & I haven't picked a lock yet so I don't have any experience In the other hand there's 43 pages in this thread and I can't read all of them to find my question and its answer... So I suggest the moderator to create a topic listing the links and subject of DIY lock picking for beginners It'll very helpful

OK so my question: What's the best link in the internet about DIY lock picking with some wires or paperclips or somthing like that ... Because there's a lot of pages and they make me feel dizzy!!

I mean that I'm not going to build some professional set .. just with one or to paperclips or some of those pins with that have locks (I don't know the name of them) Just like some crime movies !!

P.S. I felt in love when I saw how sam fisher picks a lock in the splinter cell game!

Nobody here picks with paperclips. You're right, its "like some crime movies" but movies does not equal reality. Could you once in a while get lucky and pick some crappy padlock or cylinder with paperclips? yeah.. but if you're getting into this as a hobby spend $20 and get a real pick set and stop trying with office supplies.

The guys who are into DIY on here, primarily use hack saw blades, windshield wiper inserts, and street sweeper bristles. The metal in paperclips simply isnt strong enough to hold up to more than 1 picking attempt, and even that's stretching it.

Paperclips have only 2 purposes in life, holding papers together, and resetting servers.

I agree with squelchtone: you won't see any good guides on how to pick locks with paperclips, because they're really a horrible way to learn.

It sounds like the lockpicking forum is probably the place that you want to start. The first few posts, including DB's Beginner Lockpicking Exercise and JK's Quick Single-Pin Picking Lesson are a great place to start.

Now, try reading the FAQ section and the beginners guide, I am sure you will find some good info there. Also, as others have mentioned, do not use paperclips, and don't pick locks in use- specifically with paperclips. Good chance you will bugger it up and/or file parts down you don't want filed down.

Well , I don't have any lockpick...
I don't know if anyone has done it but if you open those home adapters with transformer within them you will see a lot of metal sheets sticking together and you can detach them . like the following picture:



Well can I use them to build lockpicks ? Is there any guide ?

Interesting idea, but I'm not sure that's a great source of material. Unless you have a fairly large transformer, those plates from a laminated core aren't really dimensioned well to give you both a pick end and a handle. (I think that you'd also find that they'll rust pretty quickly once the protective surface coating is removed.)

Did you even read any of the links that any of us posted earlier? Instructions for making lockpicks aren't exactly hard to find here.

yes, that is an interesting idea. i haven't recently looked at an adaptor transformer, but from what i rember (if i'm correct) the metal sheets seem to be too wide. you could file or grind them down to size though, with enough patience. my suggestion would be to either use windshield wiper blades or hacksaw blades. you can get windshield wiper blades at any auto shop (auto zone) for free in the trash outside. you can get hacksaw blades 3 for a dollar some places, which can give you 9+ picks. if you do make some picks from that transformer, let us know the results.

Transformer Core plates are going to be made out of mild steel they will have no flex and will probably bend quite easily so no that will not serve as a good material.

Stick to tried and true methods for you first couple picks. Otherwise you will waste your time making a pick that will bend and/or snap.

Dude.. there is no best guide that we keep handy in PDF format, no "tut's", or anything like that. The Lockpicks - Manual sub-forum has a ton of stickies and posts from users who show what they made. You do have to do some work on your own and search for yourself; this isn't a full service drive thru window.

All I can offer you is the Locksport International Visual Guide to Lockpicking.

If that manual doesn't help you, nothing will.
