My first home made pick

Here is my first home made pick, I know it is not as amazing as all the other picks that are posted here but I am happy how it turned out.

I made this pick by following Pyro's Video.

I have also bought some locks,

All and all I don't think that I am starting too bad.

welcome to the forum. Your pick looks good, nice job. Just be careful with the saw, it could cut your skin... why don't you grind those teeth down?

I have a few bottom of the keyway tension wrenches that came with the pick set that I bought, so I think I am going to attempt to make a top of the keyway tension wrench.

I will post it when I am done.

You spell your name wrong!

First pick looks good. As you make your top of keyway tension wrench make sure that the prong of the wrench falls just short of the first pin in the lock. You want it to grip firmly, but not interact with that pin at all or it can give you false feedback & impede the picking of that pin.

On another note all my tension wrenches that I have made from hack saw blades have broken.

I guess I need to get a hold of some wiper inserts.

May I ask what you used to make the picks?

So for I have just been using hacksaw blades and a grinder but would like to someday make some more advanced picks.

Can someone tell me where to get emery paper with a grit above 600?

Home Depot, Home Hardware and Canadian Tire all only have 600 grit.

I would try an auto body repair shop, as they use the finer grits for flatting paintwork and laquer finishes.

May I ask what you used to make the picks?

Wiper blade inserts, Dremel with cutoff wheels, and polymer clay (FIMO and/or Sculpey). I have a full tutorial somewhere in the stickies if you want the fine details.

Here is a new short hook that I made

All the other picks I made eventually broke. I think that the hacksaw blades were bad. I could not get them to snap and they felt like they would crack in multiple locations when they bent.

The new hacksaw blades seem a lot better they even seem to grind better so perhaps I can make a tension wrench with these.

I will keep you all up to date.
