Name that lock!

Postby Ultimatederrenfan » 8 Sep 2004 13:37

hello all,
Now im not sure what type of lock this is so i couldn't search for it on this forum, but the key doesn't look like it goes into a pin-tumbler or wafer, but the key rather has chunks taken out of it, the shakle isn't spring loaded, and i have no idea of how to open it, i will try to post some pics so i will check out some sites, but posted here to get expert advice,
Thanks all
Dan
P.S. What difficulty level would you rate it? (/10)

I'll second that. If it's an Abloy, the key will be semi-circular in section, with notches of varying depth along one side of the blade. Have a look at the 'Abloy locks' thread in "European locks...." link below:

This link starts on the third page and is where the pics begin, with Cormu's excellent breakdown of an Abloy.

sorry, that didnt come out right---anyway the keyhole to the lock is kind of offset to the right.....I'll try to explain the keyhole starts out in a straight line, half way down it shifts to the right, and then back to match the top-kind of looks like this

----__----

can anyone tell me what kind of lock this is

.....paracentric?.....

most locks have some sort of "curvyness" to the keyway - the bits that stick out from the side fo the keyway are called "wards"

a keyway with wards that protrude past the centre virtical line is called "paracentric".

any lock compnay can make a paracentric lock, but from your description it could be practically any lock that's ever been made at all with the exception of leaver locks, abloys, bilocks and a few other unique ones.

a picture would help greatly
Oh look! it's 2016!

I can't find a pic yet, i will photograph the one that i have instead of one on the net, it is like the abloy but the key way has a perfect rectangular shape and no wards what so ever, the pins or wafers, whatevers inside, are all lined up and are like on the abloy from the link you gave me, thanks for that, i will keep searching,

If iam not mistaken blackspur is a cheap line of tools etc a bit like stanley but at the budget end and this looks very similar to my steering wheel lock key. If im correct if you insert a pick into the opening of the lock you can move the first piece of metal around which acts a bit like a guard. Ive yet to seriously try picking yet but just got to make a tool to do the job.

Heres a pic its the stoplock pro http://www.lonesonline.co.uk/pdf_pages2/062.pdf

i'll see if i can find a pic of the key way etc, it's silver, square, and uses a ball bearing lock method, so padlock shims are useless, get pic as soon as possible,
