http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.17606SO TEMPTING! cheapest pick gun ive seen on the internet. but -- should i? it looks like a debranded pick gun - same looking as the ones ive seen on other sites. aka it looks straight from the factory. for me in australia it costs like 26 dollars (with free shipping) so its very tempting. and if i lose it to customs - i really wouldnt mind as its so cheap (this is whats deterring me from getting expensive models) whats your opinion guys? id love to make my own electric toothbrush one but i dont have the supplies.

Although I don't live there, I've heard from several people that you shouldn't have any problems with customs ordering picks, mechanical or otherwise. As for the gun, it's only 25$, so even if it sucks and breaks on the first day, it's still only 25$. You get what you pay for, but if you're careful with it there's no reason for it to break. Or just build your own gun.

I purchased one and never received it. Got everything else including the shai long pick set, detainer pick cross pick etc and a tasco rifle scope. Have contacted them many times and have got nowhere (over 3 months and still getting nowhere). Btw the shai long set is fairly poor quality when compared to southord etc but has been useful for persuading some dodgy locks from ebay to open without risking my tidy picks.
Me and my mates have mixed experiences with deal extreme so just be prepared to loose your £15 or so if you don’t get it

Deal Extreme sells mostly substandard tools and there have been numerous complaints about broken items being shipped to customers, but mostly the complaint is that you will never get your stuff and most people never get a refund. I have yet to hear a person say that the picks they order from this outfit don't arrive bent. Do yourself a favor, go to a good site like lockpicks.com or lockpickshop.com you will have better luck, and it won't take 6 months or never to get your stuff. Just my opinion.

From what I understand from a penetration tester who went to Australia for a contract, it's 100% illegal to carry picks in public if you aren't a licensed locksmith. What do your laws say about owning them on private property, though?

dealextreme sells great stuff. Mostly not top of the range material, but for the prices they charge you can hardly go wrong. I ordered numerous items from them and have no complaints so far.

I would have to agree with Jos, DX sells great stuff for the price it sells it at. If your a hacker or a tinker and want to play with stuff, DX is great. but if you want good quality stuff look elsewhere. Think dollar store quality, good to explore and buy little trinkets, but not if your looking for quality.
Every time I have ordered picks from DX they have been slightly bent, I agree with that (but shipping is free [from CHINA!] and it comes in a little manila envelope), but its not so bad, I ordered the 5 dollar set as well as the klom set, and they are not that bad, I use them allot, and with the amount of picks I got I have tons of picks to experiment with.
I still love my petersons and my home made picks, but if your looking just to tinker around DX is a good site to do it cheaply.

Indeed, I can personally vouch for it, although I know prefer SPP as it is more flexible. But I can certainly recommend it as an EPG. Scott.
