Pen-Pickset For 5 Bucks

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Just wanted to take a minute to thank the OP. I'm generally pretty bad with DIY, but this one really looks fun. Thanks for sharing it here.

Just a quick thought... I did something similar many years ago, but it was nothing to do with locksmithing. What I did was to grind down the screwdriver blade they included in the set. It might save having to get the correct diameter piano wire and a little messing around flattening the end of it?

It should still be tempered afterwards though, unless you "grind" down the blade on an oilstone (like sharpening a knife), which is what I did back then, as I did not have a water grinding wheel until a couple of years ago.

I love it! I think my college has a bench grinder in the materials testing workshop... I'll see how I get on. If I don't post back I probably lost a hand or something :-D

Please remember that this is not IRC, MSN, AIM, or ICQ live chat.

Your posts should either be asking a question relevant to the thread, or answering a question relevant to the thread, or informing people about something lock or lock picking related. If you must side track a little bit, at least make your post a little more coherent than "huh?" and as already mentioned, if it is not lock related or lock picking related, post it in General Chatter.

There is a great forum etiquette video you should see, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIyr5TXqe8Y&feature=fvsr

@skygear:
Looks like a really nice EDC set!

What I don't quite understand is why you use hacksaw blades to make the picks. All other tools, like the file and stuff, seem do to be fashioned from a round piece of steel...I mean as long as it's working fine, that's cool. It just seems to be quite a hassle to change the picks...but I really would need to see them "in action" to judge that :wink:

actually these were regular picks that I cut down to size... Most people prefer hacksaw blades for a couple reasond though, 1 blade can make multiple picks, but more importantly can customize each tool to the specific dimentions they prefer...
The round 'file' is a diamond bit dremel tool that comes in real handy. And of course the drill bits and shims are a must
