Both of those picks are more gimmicks than good everyday use picks.
If you don't fancy making your own you would be better off buying something like Southord premium slimline picks for european locks.
If you purchase from our sponsor http://www.lockpickshop.com you can enter the voucher code LP101 at the checkout for a 10% discount.

If you are on a tight budget I would suggest getting for starters:-
Slim Line Small Diamond Pick with Metal Handle MSL-04
Slim Line Medium Hook Pick - Metal Handle MSL-08
Slim Line Small Diamond Hook with Metal Handle MSL-10
and maybe Slim Line L Rake Pick with Metal Handle MSL-01

These premium laminated metal handles are more comfortable to use than the cheaper flat picks.

With the discount this will come to $17.82 which is cheaper than the price of either of your original choices.
You could make or buy a case at a later date when funds allow, and I strongly suggest making your own tension wrenches from wiper inserts/drain snake/sweeper bristles (search around the forum for ideas) as they are simple to make and potentially free.

If you are based in the UK you may want to take a look at some UK shops, see this thread for suggestions viewtopic.php?f=7&t=48461

Advice can be better given if we know where you are on the planet, so please fill your profile with your location.

Good luck with your hobby and remember to read all the rules viewtopic.php?p=4275#p4275 , check out all the stickies and search the forums first before asking questions that may have already been answered. Our search button is a little lacking, so check out this thread for conducting a google search of this site. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=26395

Happy picking!! :)

= Not good quality picks, and not so easy to use. Especially in the jackknifes case.

In my opinion, yes.

Slimline is a pick made from one flat piece of metal, and premium has the main body of the pick laminated/sandwiched between two handle shaped pieces. This makes for a more comfortable handle.
Hope this helps.

Same material, just different handle type.
For stronger picks look for Southord Max High Yield, but much more expensive.

I agree, a proper set is better to start out learning with. But if I had to choose between a jackknife and the dyno kwik, it'd be a jackknife for sure... the dyno is just a retractable snake rake in a big bulky handle. Worst gimmick ever, and ridiculously overpriced.
