Me, a master lock combination lock, and a can opener.

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

If find it ironic that the best tool I could find to open the back of an old mater lock combination lock was the can opener attachment on my multi-tool. Anyway I thought you guys might like to see a pick of what happens when I get bored on the weekends.

Please remember that destructive entry is reserved for the Advanced sub forums. You've been a member long enough to know that ;-)

I am sorry. My purpose was not to show destructive entry, I was making a lock for a demonstration for my locksport chapter and I thought people might get a kick out of this. If this is inappropriate for the regular forums please take down my post and accept my apologies.

That's not really destructive entry, is it?

I mean, if I post a picture of a deconstructed pin tumbler lock no one complains.

I'm not sure but the last thing I want to do is upset the moderators.

"Inside an old Master Lock combination lock." would be a nice title to that very nice post; and if it just didn't mention how to destroy the lock, it would be perfect ;)

I will try that next time. Thank you for the suggestion. Again I apologize I was unaware this would be considered inappropriate for the general forum. If the moderators feel strongly about this opinion please shut down this thread, because my intention was never to present this as a example of destructive entry. I was attempting to make a demonstration lock and wanted to show people the results of my efforts. I merely found it humorous that the best way I could find to take apart the lock without destroying it was with a can opener. I appreciate you calling me on this error and for the tips on how to avoid this situation in the future.

Thanks

No worries mate, I just don't want to give people any new methods or interesting ideas on how to open one of these. Not sure we need to move or delete this thread, perhaps it's best used as a gentle reminder to all passing users that there are limitations and grey areas that we can sometimes skirt around and sometimes we cannot.

I like your idea of making a cutaway or a transparent back so you can see how it works, there's certainly nothing wrong with a creative project like that.

Have a good day everyone,

a transparent back plate would be an interesting project.
