Save your money for a carear where you have a chance of making money. There are probably more training schools in UK than real locksmiths. Each company is like a conveyor belt for the poorly trained newbie. The market has been swamped for a few years now and this is why trading locksmiths are setting up training schools. It's easier to take money of the uneducated than to go out and find paying locksmith work. Have a google around your area for locksmiths, joiners, glaziers, handymen etc. These will be the competitors taking the locksmith work in your area. Add to this estate agents mainly have their own tradesmen and all the large companies use National contractors.

The training these companies tend to give also concentrates on getting locks open which will only make up a very small part of your daily work if you get any. The majority of work is repairing failed multipoints, upgrading security and cutting keys.

Everyone is a locksmith these days...
75% of which cant identify a mortise lock (even out the door), cant pick locks or even stock enough sizes of cylinder to do all jobs.
Iv taken loads of work from failed subbies that turned up unprepared and been sent packing haha

Unless you already have a good understanding and general interest dont waste your money

without having to start a new thread, i'll hijack this one...

i'm awaiting more information to see if there is a possible locksmith at my current work all ready to train someone like myself; however, i'm not looking to stay for much longer in the city i'm at. so, what i was wondering is: whether or not a registered locksmith certification is worth its weight to take with me wherever i may go.
i found a technical school near(ish) me and it offers a six day training course, but it's for a thousand dollars--which isn't cheap. the link: http://www.fvtc.edu/public/content.aspx?ID=1601&PID=23
the dilemma is that i have performed these tasks that are studied in this training, and don't want to retrain myself for a piece of paper (i know there are other certifications, but i don't know which has the most weight). any ideas?
