Using an iPAD of iPHONE to run credit cards

Postby allamericanlock » 16 Oct 2010 18:11

If you are like me and are looking for a way to run credit cards for you business and have an ipad 3g or an iphone, there are a few companies who have apps for that. In my specific case i have gone through a bankruptcy and knew that getting an account to run credit cards would not be easy and was worried it might be impossible. The first company i tried was Payware which not to my surprise rejected me which wasn't to bad because there iphone case to swipe credit cards was almost $200 and it doesnt work on the ipad and they wanted a 2-4 year contract and a monthly fee. The next two companies i scored with...

MERCHANT WAREHOUSE-
UPSIDE - no hardware to buy, decent rate or 2.19% per transaction, money is in your account in about 3 days or less
DOWNSIDE - $25 a month fee + Statement fee of about $7, no swiping-you have to key in everything, if you dont have the customers billing address the percentage goes up.

SQUARE-
UPSIDE-no hardware to buy-its free!, nifty little dongle that plugs into the headphones jack that you can swipe the card on, no monthly fee, customers can sign with there finger,
You can also set up a little store on the ipad/iphone with prices to things commonly purchased-when you touch that item it adds it to the total bill.
DOWNSIDE-2.79%+15 cents per transaction, took almost 6 months to get setup with them because of the backorder of people signing up with them(first come first serve)

Please let me know if anyone else has any better ideas or cheaper companies, thanks!

For work we have a hand held card machine that the Boss got from the Bank who his business is with, I have no idea how much it cost but personally I would rather be dealing with the bank that I already use instead of some other company who run their equipment through an iPhone ( I hate the iPhone)

The hand held unit that we use works on the mobile 3G network so it can be used pretty much anywhere which is very handy.

the machines ive seen cost about $300 which i cannot afford so i naturaly went with equipment i already have. When i pull out the ipad to run a credit card and the people get to sign it with their finger they are amazed and intrigued.
