Handcuffs

Postby RoyalRow » 6 Oct 2010 17:34

Hi everyone,

So I have a pair of S&W 100's that have different size openings near the pawl bar.

I did not want to buy a handcuff shim pick so instead I used the long end of my tension wrench, but the problem is that it wont fit in one of the openings.

Is this a defect in the cuffs or is it supposed to only fit if you use a handcuff pick?

Are you trying to pick the lock or shim them open?

i thought picking handcuff was easy ,never done it myself ,but saw it on lock-picking for a new millennium ,and he made it look easy with a small hook ,as long as the locking bar is not set ,it seems pretty quick 8)

I was trying to shim it.

It's easy but I just don't know why the shim doesn't fit in one of the sides.

Likely your shim is just too thick. And anytime you can't successfully attack a lock, it is doubtful that is a defect of the lock. More like a feature ;)

some of the newer models have a split pawl like the Yuil brand from Korea. this may be harder to shim if the ward between the pawls comes close enough to the toothy part.

For got to mention that if that is the case, we will need split shims.
