does a master lock 140 have a spool pin?

Postby johnny_bombastic » 21 Jan 2010 18:31

I found one in my lock collection and picked it with two paper clips. It felt like i got the reverse movement on the last pin before it turned, so i was curious if anybody knew if it has any spool pins?

Cool, thanks. Does anybody what the little hole on the bottom does? I stuck a paper clip in there and I can feel something springy. Is there some way to remove the lock cylinder?

I think that is just a drainage hole that lets out moisture/water that collects inside the lock body.

Ya the older ones according to LocksmithArmy's site used to only have 1 mushroom pin in the 3rd chamber, but the new ones have differing amounts of spools and sometimes serrated pins in them. also the springy thing in the hole was probably the shackle spring.

I have one of each. The older one has a mushroom in the 3rd pin from the front, and the new one has a spool in 2 and 4.

about those little holes in locks, they are usually for draining, if you live in a place where the temperature can freeze water, and the lock is used outdoors it can get full of water then freeze, if that happens you would have to heat the lock to unfreeze it. (mini torch and no locks with plastic parts.)

My 240 has two spool driver pins.
140 and 240 are the same locks.
