My First Picks!

Postby werelwolf » 6 Nov 2010 20:59

Hey all!

I'm shamed to admit that I've been a member of this board lurking for so long and HAVEN'T had any picks before now, but as of two days ago, I've finally got my first set of picks in!

I've been considering crafting my own before now from the tried and true method of hacksaw blades. This year coming back to college, I finally had access to a grinder that I would use, but this opportunity to purchase online came up and I can practice and get use to the feel and know better for what to look for when crafting my own set.

I got the 9 piece set on Dealextreme, and yes I know that it's cheap chinese wares, but they seem sturdy enough! They are the Secure Pro set and that's good enough for me at the moment. I'm just glad to have them! :D

So far, I'm favoring use for the mediumish curved hook, but I want to get good practice with most of them. I'll also have pics at some point... another benefit to being back to college, lots of access to equipment I don't usually have!

Just the other day I went down to the hardware store and picked up a Mastercraft 140 padlock. I see that it's a four pin lock with a security pin, but I had the opportunity, and I want ( need! ) to start somewhere!

I'm very excited, I'm getting the hang of feeling each pin, the torque is hard for me at the moment, I'm having trouble knowing how much to apply ( just a little, I know! ) and not very good at feeling the feedback of each pin, but hey, that's just practice, right!

Thanks for reading, I'll try to be back soon!

Hey, I was expecting a picture of your first hand made set...

Ok, at least you've got strong theory, now go practice!

Cheers :-)

two years reading the site and now hes ready to give it a try,

be sure to pay attention to the lock and not "over intelectualize" what its supposed to be telling you.

be open to answers you failed to anticipate.

oh, and we'll be here to answer your questions with random irrelevancies.
