First couple picks - wiper inserts and hacksaw blades

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

First couple picks - wiper inserts and hacksaw blades

Postby sn0w » 7 Nov 2010 3:25

Hey all,
Been around a while, finally signed up and decided to have a go at making my own set of picks. Constructive criticism, tips, what i'm missing or doing wrong etc much appreciated. :)

and some roughed out hacksaw blades - not sure if i'm going to finish them, there's so much less material to remove with wiper inserts but I suppose that'd be a negative for a longer pick

Nice start! The shapes of some may need a little refinement, for example the half diamond on the middle has a way too long rape wich will interfere with the pin before the one you're working with. Anyway all you need is to try them out to see how good they are.

I suggest you to finish the hacksaw set, but take your time. You don't need to finish them today! Work on one, finish its shape, sand it smooth. Then use it for a few days to test it and find out if it may benefit from some improvements. After that you're ready to start working on the next one.

Cheers :-)

Thank you for the suggestions :)
Which half diamond do you mean? I'm thinking maybe the hacksaw one, but not sure -they're both in the middle or maybe even the middle picture? :?.
My practice lock set should be here soon, tomorrow I think, then I will be able to test them out :D

I was referring to the half diamond in the middle picture, on the centre.

Cheers :-)
