i need a bogota repair stat!

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

i need a bogota repair stat!

Postby dktf » 9 Nov 2010 2:35

Hey all,

the unthinkable has just occured...I was picking a master lock no. 1 with my bogota sabana set from Raimundo (and Serepick.com) and my 3 peak bogota snapped off inside the lock. i am absolutely devastated by this loss (i feel like Alfred when all the DC characters believed that Batman was dead). i've lost my #1 pick, my star, and i was hoping that my fellow peers from the community could provide me with some insight on how i could repair my star pick. i don't have access to a blow torch so welding the pick together (unless i'm using a jet lighter) is almost out of the option. i was considering using superglue though i doubt that it'll have the ability to hold the head of the bogota back to the body (which contains the tensor)

any advice would be greatly appreciated...please help!

Don't waste your time trying to repair the pick, it's impossible!
I suggest you to try make a set yourself, it's not that difficult, you only need a couple of files and some sandpaper. Use your broken pick as a template.

Cheers :)

I concur with femurat: Welding will not help. I would create a new one. I made a bogota last week that is pretty decent, but it is not the traditional handle.

welding on such a small piece is impossible for most equipment, the kind of hard soldering that is done one eyeglasses frames would also probaby be no match for the type of force that broke the pick.
in any case either of these two would change the temper of the metal,

replace, it cant be repaired.

someone asked about the photo thing that db posted, the the photos are about the steps in making a bogota, and I went and dug through 8 pages of the 15 page thread on making bogotas, thats the sticky that currently is at the top of the stickies list.
The link to dbs photo tutorial is on page 8 of the thread, and its at the middle of the page, just scroll down and look for DBs post and click on the link.

Unfortunately, I forgot where the question about this photo tutorial was, someone said that they looked and couldn't find it, when i looked I eventually found it after 8 pages, but then I forgot were the person with the question posted it at.
