Anyone in Western MA?

Postby weilawei » 12 Nov 2010 20:26

I'm in the Pioneer Valley in MA, about 30 minutes outside of Springfield. Are there any locksport groups nearby--or is anyone interested in starting one?

Sure, 2 weeks after I move from Chicopee to Boston, you post this... lol..

Your best bet is either driving to the TOOOL meetings that happen once every few months in Boston, or to hang with the guys in MA2600 in the basement of Haymarket Cafe next to Faces in Northampton, first Friday of each month around 6pm.

good to see someone from Western Mass here, what town you living in now?

I'm in Hatfield now, but I was living in Amherst, and prior to that Northampton. My friends attend the 2600 meetings (and the Haymarket is my favorite coffeeshop), but I never seem to make it.

I used to work in Chicopee (at Westover), but I never hung out there (doesn't seem like much more than a highway, honestly). Do you know anyone still around here who does locksport?

Hatfield.. that's where the new Food Bank is.. I volunteered there. nice place.

Langly on here is from Hartford, CT area, but he's busy working and I don't think they've had a Locksport International meeting in ages.

Westover.. I'm gonna miss those C-130's and C-5's..

Did you know Andiamo panini shop on 116 in Amherst by the Notch closed forever?!

I wonder if your 2600 friends are Mavrix, Rasputin/DocBlade, or JC. They recently moved the meeting to some place called the Blue Sofa, but the old school crowd still meets at Haymarket.

Stop by SlashNET #lp101 IRC channel, good place to chat

Mavrix and Rasputin are familiar names, though I haven't personally met them. I met ohmboy many years ago (friend-of-a-friend, who actually attended 2600 back before he decided to spend all his time getting an EE degree).

Have you ever heard a B-52? I was working in the hangar next to the runway when one of those babies came in for the air show... talk about ear-shattering. Only time I actually needed to wear my earplugs.

Never went to Andiamo, but I knew it was there. Didn't realize it closed though >_<. Did you ever try the Black Sheep Deli (Amherst center)?

I'm a pretty avid hiker/camper/climber, so I'm up at the Notch, Sugarloaf (this morning), the Sun Bowl, etc. pretty often. If you're ever in the area again, you should hit me up.

Sorry to just drop in on the conversation, but I'm over in Worcester looking to get started with picking. Where can I get info about the Boston TOOOL meetings when they're scheduled? I'll probably try giving the 2600 meeting a go next month (read it pretty often but never knew there was a group nearby), but if you've got other suggestions on who to get in touch with or how to meet people, I'm all ears. I'd be happy just to sit down for lunch or coffee once in a while if anybody in the area's interested.

Everyone's been busy since HOPE and DEFCON, and Schuyler has his Kickstarter thing going on and I just moved, but going forward, I think it would be good to have a meeting before New Years. I'll PM you on here with the best way to be in the loop.

Good to see more locals!
