Re-Keying/Pin depth question

Postby WolfSpring » 14 Dec 2010 14:22

I'm considering buying a repin kit for master locks you get into why , I'm messing with a bunch of American 5200s and I would like to learn masterkeying, I've already got the locks, the kit is 50 bucks. The kit is for masters, which should be the same size as American, but here's my problem, here is the descprition of the pins.

•7 Brass Master Pins - sizes: 1-7
•2 Brass Driver Pins - sizes: 1 & 7
•8 Brass Bottom Pins- sizes: 0-7

I know American goes to size 9, and I've never seen a 0 cut.

Will that trasnlate to american sizes 1-8 and the 1 master pin to make the 9 is the only way?

Am I missing something here? I'm going to get the kit anyway and try to find the right pin sizes if I need 9. I'm also gettin a caliper so I can messure and figure it all out that way.

Thank you.

Here are the Master to American Bottom Pin Sizes. Also I think that there are only 5 American Master Pins, and they correspond to the Master #2 through #6 Master Pins.

Master Bottom #0
American Bottom #1

Master Bottom #1
American Bottom #2
0.1255
Master Bottom #2
American Bottom #3
0.1411
Master Bottom #3
American Bottom #4
0.1567
Master Bottom #4
American Bottom #5
0.1724
Master Bottom #5
American Bottom #6
0.188
Master Bottom #6
American Bottom #7
0.2036
Master Bottom #7
American Bottom #8
0.2192
