EVVA DPS Trap pin

Anyone had any success un-trapping a DPS cylinder if the trap pin is activated? As far as I can see, the trap pin is just one of the bottom pins engaging in a depression in the side bar milling, so it should be possible to push the side bar with a pick and free the plug, but I'm not having any luck.

Anyone been there/done this?

Hi mhole,

it's a very easy job: put an half diamond tip over the third pin, but in the bottom of the keyway direction. reach the bottom of the keyway, then rotate it slightly ccw and it should free the trap.

Thanks for that Femurat - got it, just as you described.

I'd been trying with a hook and couldn't get it, but the extra stiffness of my small half diamond nailed it - cheers!

I did it a few times in the past, but to be 100% sure about the technique I dig out my cylinder and tested it again before posting

Like femurat said, you just push the moving part of the sidebar up to get past this. There's a photo of the sidebar mechanism here:

How the rest of the lock looks will depend a lot on version (DPS vs DPX vs DPI, etc), but they are all about the same as far as this component goes.

A newer version of the lock has sliders instead of pins.
But I haven't had the chance to check one out so far.

Thanks for that pic datagram - I was on your site looking at the DPS images within about 5 minutes of triggering the pin, it's a fantastic resource.

The lock I was picking had a small A below the evva logo on the cylinder face, not sure what this signifies, but the keys are marked DPS.

AFAIK they share keys between systems except for the DPE. For example, the DPI and DPS keys look the same. DPX might be a bit different because it needs profiling on both sides of the key and DPE obviously has it's own key. The differences:

DPS Single sidebar; pins and one profile bar.
DPX: Dual sidebar; pins and two profile bars.
DPI: Dual sidebar; sliders control one and profile bar the other.
DPE: Same as DPI but with key cut on the bottom of the blade (see link above)

The DPS locks I've dismantled have 5 pins, and a single side bar operated by the relief cuts in the side of the key. Is the 'profile bar' the small section of the sidebar which is depressed by the 3rd pin to trap the plug, or something else I've not noticed?
