Appropriate nut for pick gun?

Postby mody1 » 8 Jan 2011 0:54

I have that cheap pick gun from dealextreme and have found it overall to work well. I have one major issue though, which is that the little nut and screw that came with it to hold the pick in place is crap and loosens under vibration (i.e. use of the gun!). I replaced it with another screw and a wingnut I had just so that it would be easier to tighten without a tool but it still constantly loosens after very limited usage, sometimes sending my pick flying away.

Obviously, what I need is a simple nut/screw/washer type solution that will NOT loosen under vibration but also allow me to loosen it if I want to so I can change the pick out. I'm hoping to be able to find this solution at the hardware store but I'm not sure what the best solution is, any ideas? :)

Here are some relevant images of the gun:

Try a spring washer under the nut. Nut can still be undone to replace pick, but you might have to replace the washer now and again if it loses its 'springiness' due to repeated compression by the nut.

Cheers...

better quality pick guns come with nylon locknuts. There are also several types of lock washers that might work under the nut.

Google "nylon locknut" or "lock washer". Any hardware store should have both for pennies each.

I have the same gun, put a lockwasher and a wing nut on mine, AND i put lock washer under all screws, the gun is made cheaply and the screws will torque themselves loose constantly. Othere than that it is truely worth it's money but I never really use it sits in my glove box for emergencies.

other then a lock nut or lock washer you could also put blue locktite (blue is for removable parts, Red is for permanent part placement) once it drys on it should keep from coming loose.
