HPC NDPK-60 Professional set

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

HPC NDPK-60 Professional set

Postby grymoire » 11 Jan 2011 17:46

While doing some price comparisons, I found a good deal on the HPC Professional lockpick kit. The typical price is around $150 (US). Description:
http://hpcworld.com/px/picksets/professional/.
60 tools:
    40 Picks
    14 Tension Tools
    6 Extractors

Keymate http://www.keymateinc.com/ normally sells this kit for $103. But this month (Jan 2010), the sale price is $67.99. Seems like a good deal. BTW, this is the only lockpick set they sell.

I've got that set.

Bought it for work several years ago. There aren't 40 different picks, just duplicates of the same 8 or 9 picks. Half or more don't' have handles.

I don't think it was worth the money.

I guess I really don't understand why someone would want a set that contained as many as 4 duplicates on the same pick. Maybe if you are really rough on picks? What would you do with something like 4 double ball picks?

Maybe this would be a good set to go in with someone and split it. I guess you would need to roshambo over who gets the case. :-)

Well, the description reads

The Professional Pick Set contains a generous assortment of the most popular picks, tension wrenches, key extractors, and feelers.

It contains a vast selection of full, half, and three quarter rakes and diamond tips; half, single, and double ball picks; light, medium, and heavy weight tension wrenches; and hook and saw type key extractors. It also includes letterbox pick/tension tools, as well as variable tension tools. Plus, the set includes dual pronged tension tools that provide even tension on double-sided wafer locks.

There's no mention of duplicates. Now I know.

Haha that made me laugh! :D

Obviously if you like them, then go ahead but the photo does quite clearly show a lot of duplicate picks which you may find you have no use for except on the off chance that you break one and even then, you're having a really bad day if you break 3 double ball picks and have to use your last spare in that set!

This set seems worthwhile, good selection of wrenches and extractors included.

Well, lockpickersmall.com sells that 24-piece set for $80
plsgroup.com: $100
basshome.com: $124
elreinhardt.com: $118

The 60-piece HPC set I posted is on sale for $67, which is both cheaper, and has has 36 more picks/wrenches. That's why I thought it was a good deal. If I get it, I'd have to figure out what to do with all those duplicate picks I don't want.

duplicates are necessary if you lose picks, or bend and break them or if you have a lot of sneak thieves who are only interested in taking one pick. thats why you always tell people that the very best pick is the double ball, so that they will steal that one.

the more picks you have the harder it is to keep track of them, you have to do the count every time you have had them out in public.

bogotas are two pieces that function like a whole pack of hpc stuff. very easy to count, ONE two.

Nice pic!

Grymoire, good point about the price. I was unaware that the smaller sets were priced so much. That does make this a pretty great deal.

Raimundo, thanks for the tip on the double ball, I will have to use that from now on. :-)

A LOT of sets that are "deluxe" or whatever have duplicates of the same pick because there are several different handles for each pick. so you have a small hook but there is one with a regular handle and then a laminated handle and whatever other style of handle the company produces. i dont get it, but thats how it was when i started picking.

I couldn't make a table, so I made it CSV format.
The first column is the number I recieved of each part.
These are spring steel, .022 thickness.
Yes, there are a lot of duplicates. There are 9 small diamonds w/o handles, +2 w/handles, and 7 as part of the 2-in-1 pick, making it a total of 18 small diamonds. I think that's enough for a wile. :)
