So, I got an American lock 5200, and out of curiosity I took it apart. One mistake that I realized a bit too late, is when I brought the cylinder to 180 degrees where the key pins could be seen, a couple of them fell out. I did not notice this when reassembling the lock, and a couple of the driver pins subsequently fell out. I noticed this well after reassembling the lock, and the springs themselves got caught on the keyway, and mangled. I figure only thing to do at this point would be to get new springs, and completely disassemble the mechanism, replace the messed up springs, and try not to do that again.
The two problems I have are one that the plug seems not to be held in by a C clip, but instead some of the metal is bent in to hold it in place. Second, what size springs would be required and where could I obtain them? Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated. Thanks.
