Hello everyone, I joined this site about a week ago. I have been working in the Locksmith Trade (officially) since 1995. Been doing this kind of work while employed as a Maintenance Mechanic. I cut keys by code, duplicate, impression, operate the CodeSourse and Keytrail software, custom installs of mechanical and electrical locks, etc... All of this is usually in an Industrial application within the Facility I work in which is a US based Motorcycle manufacturer. I Took my first course through Foley-Belsaw in 1995 and have taken other misc courses over the years since. My interests in this forum are to further expand my network of associates and my own personal knowledge in the trade. I am interested to know what others do as far as associations and what is most recommended for people to join if they want to be self employed in the Locksmithing field. I don't know why but, most of the local Locksmiths that I have met in my area are mostly rude snobs. Besides locksmithing training I am also an excellent Pipe/ Structural welder in the GTAW, GMAW, and SMAW processes and I am also Machininst with my own CNC equipment at home. Just out here looking to network. I live in the Liberty Missouri area. Thanks!

Hey everyone. I'm taking up lock picking as a hobby - I've always wanted to. I bought a lockpicking set years ago and despite knowing the theory, couldn't pick any padlocks so after a few weeks I got frustrated and the set ended up in a suitcase somewhere.
I recently tried again, and was again unsuccessful, but I messaged someone who I knew picked locks and he suggested (what I probably should have known already) and I went and got a deadbolt from Home Depot. In the past few days I've gone from picking it after taking out four pins to picking the thing with and arrangement of all five pins. I still can't manage to open any of my padlocks though.
Anyway, I've always enjoyed overcoming/sidestepping obstacles, so this hobby fits well with me. This site has been helpful as a lurker and I hope to continue learning now that I've joined the board.

Hi, not really a doctor, just a nick name that stuck with me. Anyhow have recently started to think about getting into locksmiths work. I currently work with a well know security firm here in Ireland, installing access control systems using Mag locks, Abloy locks, Biometric and Proximity card readers. Have been looking at various courses over in the UK but thought Id log on here to learn the basics and pick up some advice from others. Going to invest in some picking tools and get some locks to practice on at home in my spare time for the moment. Thanks

Hello all, as my name implies I like puzzles and it never dawned on me that a lock is a puzzle till a short time ago. I found a Youtube video on bump keys and thought no way can securtiy be that bad. Well I bought 3 keys and since I can't open a lock the vast majority of the time I started doing research online to see why. Well this eventually took me to the TOOOL site and then I found this place. I don't even own a lock pick set yet but I am eager to learn since I believe that bump keys are kind of cheating. I want to learn to use picks, no guns or other mechanical devices. I am still reading all the stickies and this site has great info. I am posting a link to what I am looking to buy. I have read the rules but since it was a link found here I assume they are a sponsor and it is ok. http://www.lockpickshop.com/LP-KIT-1.htmlhttp://www.lockpickshop.com/TRIPIKV3-WS.htmlIs this too much for a beginner? I'm sure some of you will hate this because it probably has been posted a billion times but if there is a kind soul that will PM me to see if I am in the right direction on buying my first set of picks please let me know.

Hi, LockPicking used to be a hobby of mine a few years ago. I started out by watching Youtube and just playing with padlocks. I can say now that there is pretty much no better feeling then picking your first lock. Since I am looking to get back into it, can anyone tell me if www.gadgetsdirect.com.au is a legit website? It is in the adds at the top of the page but I would rather be safe then sorry.

Hello everyone, I stumbled across your site while trying to figure out the combination of my master lock and quickly became fascinated. Now I am off to read forum rules ( which I probably should have done first) then reading up on which set of picks should be my first.
