Multiple driver pins idea

Postby dusanp » 15 Jan 2011 17:32

Firstly, sorry for my terrible grafic skills.
Secondly, I am quiet sure this has been designed before, but I want to put it here in case it hasnt.
So here it goes:
Image

The idea was quiet simple - every time a lock completes revolution and driver pins meet the bottom pins, the pins reset and you have to pick it again. Therefore if we add more driver pins, (i would reccomend eight times more, I was only able to draw four, but anyways) the pins reset many times, meaning the picker has to pick it more times to complete one full revolution. That wouldnt make picking harder, but slower, and the picker would have a bigger chance of being spotted.
Hopes this is understandable, not completely dumb and helps.

well, there's the cruciform keyway lock which I think do that... and also the tubular lock was designed with this concept in mind.

Why not make a simple sidebar lock with multiple grooves in the plug, so after the sidebar is picked, it rotates to another groove, releases the pins and has to be picked again.

Also a plug spinner would overcome most of this...
The BiLock isn't the first bump proof pin tumbler because it isn't a pin tumbler.
And it's called a shear line, not a "sheerline".

It would never catch on in the U.S. due to the simple fact that such a design is not retrofitable into current hardware. Mortise cylinders? Perhaps. Key-in-lever (your commercial creme de la creme)? Nope. Besides, most key-in-knobs/levers only require rotation of 45-60 degrees which nearly (depending on the model), if not fully, retracts the latch. You could pick it, begin to retract, then finish it off with your basic loiding tool to bypass this design (assuming you could retrofit it - or assuming someone would want to replace their hardware to incorporate this design) without ever touching your auxilliary driver pins.

The deadlatch feature will only operate when extended past a certain point. Retract the latch beyond that point and you've essentially got a passage latch. You'd have to re-design your clutch and/or latch assembly to require more than the standard 45-90 degree rotation for FULL latch retraction.

Good luck selling a product that requires 180 degrees of rotation to operate (Americans are lazy; we don't want extra effort).

Do you know what this cylinder would be really good for?
It would be an awesome practice cylinder!!

I'm imagining different types of security driver pins in each of the four bibles. One with regular, one with serrated, one with spooled, one with a mix or some other kind of driver pins.

You're on to something. Incorporate this into any lock picking competition. Each turn gets harder and harder and harder. Fastest to a full revolution wins!
