Ahk! Rusty Bogotas!

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Ahk! Rusty Bogotas!

Hey all!

I haven't been around in quite a long time! i've recently finished college applications and the associated tests and whatnot and have had a lot of time open up!

I opened my hobby box, and pulled out my precious bogota set made by Raimundo, and noticed that they've gotten rusty! i probably should have oiled them, but i don't really live in a humid climate so it's not exactly habit.

i'm hopefully going to go pick up some steel wool tomorrow, but i'm a little nervous that there will be some pitting and weakening. This sucks, cause my own attempts at a bogota are nothing like Raimundo's works (looks and performance). phooey.

Anyway, what's new in the world of lockpicking? any new picks or practice locks? i really do need a new lock too.

try some fine grit sandpaper, maybe 600 grit, and fold it with the grit inside a small piece of the paper folded grit in.
push and pull the picks through this, and as the paper gets worn to thinner grit in one place, move to another if you have heavy rust to wipe, or stay in the worn spot to polish it for finish.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!

They should be fine, I've rubbed down a few rusty picks and had no problems.

I now coat all my tools, except the handles, in ACF50 - stops rust and corrosion, keeps them shiny and lasts about 5 months after a wipe from a rag soaked with it. ACF50 works great for cars, motorbikes and bicycles too.
