i ran across locksport on the web by accident, and after seeing a few videos i became obsessed. still new to picking, what really struck my interest was that after reading a little on making your own picks, and trying it out myself, i opened my first pad lock in about ten seconds (completely biginners luck i assure you) so now i feel compelled to learn as much as i can, and LP101 is a great informative site for doing so. about a week ago i bought one of your standard home fire safes from craigslist without the combo for to play around with. havent had the first bit of luck, but with a little help and a lot of patience...

Hi to all!
I am new to lock picking, actually never knew anything about it. My interests in it came up, when I forgot a key in a building I was doing a key-holding at a burglar alarm as a security officer. It was the only key of that particular building I had in my car, and did not want to be blamed about having pulled the door closed before I had checked that I had the key with me. I called for a lock smith who came, took some small kind of tool, put it into the lock, did keep it under slight tension, and worked for a half a minute with another tool in the lock and opened the door. Bill was on me- it was not cheap at about 02.30 in the night, but I got my key back!
I want to learn this myself, because I never know when this comes handy again.
Regards,
Paul T.

Hello all,
I'm new and soon to be badgering you with questions (I'll try to not repost/ask items already covered). I've wanted to learn how to pick locks since I bought a car with 4 keys that all did different combinations of doors/ignition and learned how to rekey the vehicle (1 key now). I also have a vivid memory of a locksmith impressioning a key (in the parking lot) for my moms car (was amazed by this, still am). It alone amazed me that the locks could be picked, but I now understand how. I bought a book and a starter set, a cheap, midgrade, and expensive lock and set out. Scared myself a bit when I was able to open my own front door deadbolt after 2 minutes. Now I want to learn more about the craft because I always hated when I lost (padlock)or locked the key inside (car) and had to cut a perfectly good lock. I've also found that lockpicking can come in handy (like a second language). I'd also rather have a hide-a-lock-pick-set than a hide-a-key on my car. That way the criminals have to earn it.

Just signed up for this forum. I'm on a couple military and tactical forums. I'm interested in hobby lockpicking, although when in the service I had occasion to use some rudimentary skills to open locks which had "lost" their keys. I'm a physician by trade, working in a walk-in clinic, which I really enjoy. Hope to find some useful tips/tricks on here for picking locks around my house and a couple old lock cores left over from my service days!

Just joined, have been playing with picking for years. Recently, I have gotten more serious about picking. I have gotten more serious about everything lol, I suppose not playing video games does that. I just bought a Peterson 20 piece set and I am very pleased.

it took me 6 hrs to pick a std yale night latch barrel.......... I ended up changing tension loads of times and evetually found my way through. I guess that is slow going.......... I am determined that the pin locks will be the easiest and am reassured that I can open them easily without gadgets and tools but I am a traditional type of guy and will feel my way through. I am looing forward to the mortice locks!!!!!!!! No bump key for them!

hi guys,
new to all this lock picking stuff, picked up a 'jack knife' that came up at a sensible price on a totally unrelated forum, starting to think that might not have been the best move! Ah well, I'll crack on with it and maybe pick up another set of traditional picks.
cheers, Greg
