Hows work your neck of the woods?

Piss poor here there are more locksmiths about now than ever before.
Literally all directories and internet directories are maxed out with new people, I really thought it had peaked already.

Our leadership told us so many great things about NAFTA (the giant suckling sound), and the idiots that parrot the government-media complex are as much to blame. Free trade = rip off America trade. Sorry, but the truth is as plain as day.

Business is as busy as ever for us. We're having to schedule 2-3 days from when they call in because we're so backed up with jobs. I've never worked so hard in my life.

I guess that's what happens when you diversify what you offer your customers and not blame the government for your issues? Seriously guys, come on. Placing the blame is juvenile and it reflects poorly on your business. You adjust your business to your situation. Do you think all successful businesses had an easy rise to the top? Hardly.

A year ago, we got out of the access control business because it seemed like everyone was doing it. We found a company that specialized in access control and we subcontract our jobs to them. We focused on locksmithing and safe work, our bread and butter. We added automotive into the mix, which is on the rise just about every week. We focused on making our core efficient in the slow time (about 2 years ago) so that when the jobs came in, we could start moving through them like they were nothing. We started marketing ourselves through Google, consumer review websites, and radio ads and removed any involvement with Yellow Page listings (a complete waste of money). The jobs started coming in.

The biggest and best thing you can do right now is refer your customers to review your company online because, like it or not, people are going to consumer review websites like Yelp and Kudzu above any other source to find their contractors. If you have stellar reviews, you're guaranteed to get business.

Excuse me??? Haven't you been keeping up with the times??? 20 years ago we made 90% of what the world consumed.. Today we make NOTHING!!! My point was, the reason there are so many locksmiths BECAUSE there are no more manufacturing jobs. The government has EVERYTHING to do with this when, every time they pass one of these trade deals, they tell us how great it is, but we keep losing more jobs.

I'm happy you are busy as hell. You found a way. But, what about all those other who have not? In all aspects of the economy. People like you anger me who turn a blind eye to the elite who can give a shit about you and me, and only want to line their own pockets.

A news reporter asked Harry Reid, " Sir when you entered politics, you made $75,000 per year, now you are a millionaire. How did this come to be?"

Harry Reid, "That's not a fair question. Next"

It has EVERYTHING to do with the government. EVERYTHING!

Thank you for listening..

The locksmith industry became saturated with scammers, not out of work manufacturers. I'm not going to go into specifics because it's been covered by every major and local news outlet, along with the FTC and BBB, but they buy mass listings in phone directories. They've saturated the market.

Now you can choose to compete with them by putting your listing right besides theirs but lets face it, its a gamble because you're just a number like everyone else in the phone book. No serious company bothers anymore - they're going for a more organic approach of consumer review websites. The majority of people are finding their contractors through the internet and search queries not only reveal your company but company reviews. If you've got a lot of people praising your company, then it's a safe assumption that people searching will call you over a company without customer feedback.

The results don't lie. I challenge you to search for the top rated locksmiths in respective markets and call and ask how business is. Anyone serious or reputable in this industry has used this outlet to get business and it's completely ethical and, to be honest, effective. I know how business is for fellow locksmiths in my area because I talk to them every time I'm at the local supplier. The companies that have used this outlet effectively, like the company I work for, are swamped. Those who haven't are up and down.

If the market is saturated, common sense would tell you to stand out above the rest which is what my company has done along with every other serious and noteworthy locksmith shop in the U.S., U.K., etc.

Place the blame wherever you want but I work in one of the largest cities in the U.S. and the saturation is as big here as anywhere else. While you're busy pointing the finger, I'll be running calls 8-12 hours a day because there's so much work and so many people calling. Why? Because we've successfully marketed ourselves in a medium that people can verify our craftsmanship, integrity, and hard work. It's not rocket science, try it some time.
