Small key way

Postby Ophidian » 10 Feb 2011 12:41

Hi everybody!

I have a little question about a lock I got from a friend, it has a very small key way and I can barely fit the wrench (se pic)

Does anyone have any ideas about how to pick this?

The wrench you have in it in your pic will do fine... just stick any pick in there and it'll probably open right up. Locks like that are complete rubbish, you can jiggle them open with a tension wrench alone. You could SPP it if you used a smaller wrench and TOK tension but I can't imagine why anyone would want to... seriously, I wouldn't waste my time with locks like that if I were you.

I've tried to jiggle it but 2:nd or 3:rd pin got such low set that the pick gets stuck, same problem when trying to SPP. Only reason I try to pick this lock is because I never leave a lock unpicked.
I got an idea about maybe using a flattened hairpin for tension wrench and SPP with a halfdiamond, but that for tomorrow right now it's time for beer.

I got it open once, this turned out to be a tricky lock since the 2:nd pin got almost bottom set and pin after that got high set, and I have a hard time to get a feeling from the pins since I hardly feel ém. Even if the lock is cheap and small it´s harder than I thought. I got two of ém if anyone like to try out.

Maybe it's an idea to use a combpick. Are do you only want to pick it instead of using a bypass method?

For that I know....for small keyways locks u can use tension wrench in these ways:

This is a widely adopted method with narrow keyways in EU locks.

do you have the key for that, if so, try opening it with the key in a counter clockwise direction,

the fit of your tensor in the first photo you posted looks like it would work with a very low profile pick in a counter clockwise direction, however when turned clockwise the blade of the tensor will turn toward the open area of the keyway and start to block pick access.

what you really need to do is find some very small metal stock like the springs inside some of those spring loaded pop open clothes hamper devices and make both a pick and a tensor of that.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
