hi guys,
new to all this lock picking stuff, picked up a 'jack knife' that came up at a sensible price on a totally unrelated forum, starting to think that might not have been the best move! Ah well, I'll crack on with it and maybe pick up another set of traditional picks.
cheers, Greg
Greg,
A jack knife is a good place to start, but you will find that it dulls the feedback from the lock. Additionally, I have found my southord jack knife to be a bit frustrating since the locking screw does not keep a tight enough hold on the pick, thus potentially failing at the wrong time. I have since moved on to other sets and now make my own picks, but still have my jack knife on my key chain because you just never know when you might need it.
Welcome to the board.

Hi All, I've recently decided to start picking locks as a hobby :) I was amazed when a locksmith came to work and opened a locked drawer in about 20 seconds, and tried my hand at a cash box we'd lost the keys to. Lets just say BFI was effective, but hardly elegant. I've made some picks, and am going to buy a lock tommorow and start off. . . One pin at a time!
Oh, and G'day from Australia!

Hey Everyone,
I've been interested in lock picking (and locks in general) for quite a while now. I've been a frequent visitor to these boards, but I have never joined. I figured it was about time lol.
This board has already been a great source of information, I hope that I can contribute my knowledge.
I'm from Baltimore, MD - USA, by the way. =]

Hi another Brit newbie here :) I have been looking into locksmithing for a while and found a lot of great info here, so thought I should sign in (and say thank you too). I got a set of Southord picks (case of 22) this a.m. and picked my first euro cylinder in about 15 minutes then it took me another 20 to do it again! Now got a silly grin on my face lol. Reason for my interest is really work related, I'm a carpenter and have had to gain entry to properties for clients and currently sub contract to a firm whose record of losing keys or managing to lock themselves out of customers houses is of nightmare proportions!! So where there is a need.... another challenge...
Hoping I get to contribute as much as I take from this site in due course, Rob.

Hi Everyone,
I've always been fascinated with locks from a young age. I love the mechanisms and the design behind them. Not sure if I ever plan to try to pick locks, but it sounds like a fun hobby. Just like to learn about things and there looks like a lot of good info here.
Thanks,
Alan

Hey I'm new. Decided to pick up lock picking (or at least try) when I realized how useful it would be if I got locked out of the house or something.
I've picked a Master Lock 1 and 3, but that is about the extent of my trials.
Thanks,
saucerlips

Hello. Actually found this forum searching for some help to fix my lock although I have got a lockpick set from years ago that I had a play around with. Only got as far as being able to unlock simple latch locks but keep telling myself I should learn how to do more complex locks as its a useful skill to have.

Im Michael from Sweden. I have been picking locks for 3 weeks now and im currently working on SPP an abus with 2 security pins and it surely will take an couple of days to really get it right. Raking the lock is quite easy but that's almost like cheating right ;)
