Has anyone heard of "American Security Academy"?

This is the old Locksmith business info area and will be broken down to fill in the new sections below.

Has anyone heard of "American Security Academy"?

Postby cehinton » 8 Mar 2011 19:45

They appearantly have a big 23-dvd set of locksmithing instruction for under $200.
They advertise on e-bay, as well as a few more sites. I am not able to find ANY reviews or unbiased information about them (ie. someone who has reviewed their materials/course).

Does anyone on this forum know anything about the quality of this course? Any info would be much appreciated.

I'd like to find a used Foley-Belsaw course, but so far no luck. So a complete video course like this sounds very reasonable at first glance.

The only good thing about Foley-Blesaw is the certificate and the fact it is recognized by the ALOA. A used copy of the course will not teach you much. http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?t=12723&highlight= this is a still current outline of the entire course and you can find literature on each of these subjects as well as Youtube videos on all of it. I knew almost everything FB taught me before I got the course. It is a good primer and something good to go back on stuff you will not use right away and may need to revisit. But it in itself is not the best way to learn what you are trying to do. Never heard of your video course, but there are a few threads on here about video courses pros and cons, and other courses too. Look around a lot of people are trying to do the same thing you are doing and you might find some good info from them. I just recently completed FB and feel the certificate, if I ever really need it, was worth the money I paid, but if I was just wanting to learn the trade there are many other avenues I would have approached if I had the time. If you get into locksmithing in any other aspect other then apprentiseing you are going ot be paying a lot just for tools and supplies so scrimping on education up front may have you ending up just selling tools on ebay later.

Almost all of what you are looking for is out there on the web. Lot of great stuff on youtube expertvillage has a great series of the basics, kinda simpleton lessons, nothing in depth but it's a start, as well as kokomolock, he has done a lot of great 101 locksmithing videos like masterkeying basics and impressioning. There are "other" methods for getting literature as well. A good book from Amazon is going to be better than shelling out for a course that is intended to make money and certify if you're not going to certify with it.

Just my $0.02

I have been looking at the American Security course also. If you check the website, there is an even better offer there.

BUT!!! I have not been able to contact him. I have tried sending a message on eBay and on the contact page at his website. No response from either and it has been over a week. His eBay record show him as pretty decent up till recently when there seems a lot of cases where he does not reply or send the materials. I suspect there may be some personal issues going on (that or there is a serious attempt to simply not send the materials). He has a few other websites listed on the locksmith course site and some of the domains are not working anymore.
The course looks fairly detailed and there does not seem to be attempt to hid things (he warns some of the photos may be blurry on a few courses). Seems like a nice combination of lessons (digital on CD) and DVD videos.

I'd wait (actually, I am waiting) till I was able to contact him before I would order. Good chance you would not get the materials.

dont waste your money. they are cheap for a reason. Got a hold of a few of the disks. Very poorly made. Stick with locksmith video school or something similar or learn by yourself. lots of info available online like wolfspring said.
