Pins keep falling down

Postby ronhollin » 16 Mar 2011 20:05

I searched for my questions but I didn't see it. I am a newb and I have the Easy Pickings LPS and I am trying to pick the deadbolt at my home. When I click the first pin up and work on the second pin the first pin will drop back down. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for the help!!

@ronhollin: Welcome to LP101...

Search the postings here for "binding order" as you are not picking the pins in the correct order and they will drop back down on you until you do...

Like Evan said, search for binding order, and just a bit of friendly advice, it's not a great idea to learn to pick on a lock that is in use, especially one on your home.

the point is not to get the pins to stick up, if you are doing this you are doing it wrong.

the bottom pin in a properly separated collumn will fall back down due the the law of gravity. (this only applies in northamerica, not europe, where newbies try to make the pins stick down)

trying to bind all the bottom pins by force above the shear line is not going to work and it also won't pick the lock,

as someone else said here, get a practice lock before you screw up one in use.

Like the others said, you should maybe read some more to understand the mechanics of a pin tumbler. Here´s my favourite tutorial:
