This isn't a hard and fast rule but if the name has been ground/polished off (very popular - some locksmiths stamp their name and phone number on them) with some cylinders when I put my thumb on them and wiggle it the cheaper ones move about a bit more than the better quality ones because of the tolerances used.
Not a hard and fast rule because an old, good quality lock may have worn and moves more than a poor quality new one.
