DIsassembling a BEST Access System Padlock

Postby maniacx21 » 23 Mar 2011 17:48

I recently got a old ('90s) best access systems padlock from a friend and was hoping to get some advice on how to take it apart.

I do NOT have the control key (to take out the core), and do NOT have the key to open it (but the shackle is cut).

I have tried to pick this lock unsuccessfully for quite some time now, and would like to (ideally) remove the cylinder intact (cutting the lock itself it ok), OR make a cutaway out of this lock, and pick it by looking inside.

This lock is full of various security pins (serrated spool pins, ect), so individual pin picking it is VERY difficult.

Picture as evidence that you own it first. I'm doubtful because of your claim of security pins in a BEST SFIC core....
The BiLock isn't the first bump proof pin tumbler because it isn't a pin tumbler.
And it's called a shear line, not a "sheerline".

Proof below.

The claim of security pins is by feel, not knowledge; its a guess.

I see metal powder and debris. Were you raking the crap out of the lock? BEST locks like very light tension, and you may find better results with top of keyway tension instead of bottom of keyway tensioning. What pick profile are you using? A short hook should work well, a half diamond, or sometimes on a good day, a riffle rake (L Rake). Google each one and you'll know what I mean

Dont rape the lock, be gentle with it.

@maniacx21:

Highly doubtful...

When you eventually get this lock open you will find it filled with regular normal pin segments...

It sounds more like it is simply beyond your skill level at the current time to pick it open...

Is this your first SFIC you have tried to pick -- those are typically 6-pin or 7-pin cores which are made to a much tighter tolerances than many other locks...

SFIC's which use spooled pin segments are exceedingly rare -- the high security pinning kit which has spooled bottom pin segments is available from BEST only, there are 3 sizes of A2 master pins are available from Lab Pins as spools...

pardon my immediate skepticism.

explains the internals in better detail. You'll need a special tensioner to disassemble it, most likely.
