The glove idea might be cleaner than just using foam or cotton to keep the picks from rattling around. When I get a chance to really try this instead of just looking at the flashlight, that would be worth a try! Thanks for the idea!
Just for fun, I pushed my feeler guage set into the mini-maglite and it fit in! Just barely, but it fit! The feeler gauge set is probably short enough to allow room for the watch batteries and whatnot needed to make it work with an LED . There seemed to be quite a bit of room left! I could grind the feeler set thinner so it could go in and out easier, and put a pull-tab of some sort on it so I can get it out when I need it. I am getting more ideas!
(Thanks for fixing that link, Mad Mick! I guess there can't be a space after that first img tag or something. I had to cut and paste it when I saw it. I didn't think enough to fix it for everyone.)

Hehe, I have a set to put in to my mag-lite, but I need the LEDs, watch batteries, and to fabricate something simple to make it all work. I just took apart the piece where the bulb fit that says "Do Not Remove" so I could see things better. I stuck a couple tension wrenches into the 2 holes and pressed them both toward center and it pops apart in 2 pieces. Pretty cool design.
It should be possible to put threads on the back part that the positive battery terminal normally comes in contact with. Then screw on something to hold a couple watch batteries and make contact with the flashlight body for ground. Throwing a spring in there is the hard part with that idea, but I am not past the thinking stage just yet. Too many ideas. The simpler the better, but it has to be reliable and easy to swap batteries.
I ground out a hook the other day for my keychain, and ended up making a 7-piece set of picks! These may someday end up in the mini-mag pick case! I just need to keep reminding myself about the idea and it will happen, eventually.

well, seeing how normally the spring on the back hold the AAs in,and connects the charge in the flashlight, would it be easier all together to rig up something to the side so it holds the small batteries down aswell as connects the charge?

On the mini-maglite that I have, you just unscrew the front all the way to get to the bulb, Then pop it out and push a new one in and screw the front back on.
In case you didn't know, there is a spare bulb stored in the tailpiece of the mini-maglite. Just unscrew the tailpiece, pop out the spring and you will see it inside a small red tube. Pull out the tube and pull the bulb out of the tube and there you are! Just don't lose the spring like I did once. (and only once!)
You can probably buy bulbs from wherever you bought the light or order them, but I dunno about the red plastic tube thing? I haven't lost one of those yet and I found the spring that I did lose, .........eventually.
I have been taking parts that look interesting out of cheaper flashlights to eventually use for the LED/watch_battery conversion. Some of these parts might be useful. I had an LED flshlight at one time, but I don't know where it is now. Sure would come in handy for this...

Want the maglite to hold your picks AND still have your brightness from a real bulb? Get the Lithium Ion disposables either D or C sized dependent on your maglite. It takes half as many batteries as it normally would, then buy some "blanks" or something like that. Essentially hollow batteries that's only purpose in life is to be a metal shell to allow current to flow through. I've been thinking about maybe getting one blank, sawing the top and bottom off of it, then making a tube out of something, like some kind of packing material, and just run a piece of solid metal through the material welded to both ends of the blank. This could provide space to hide picks, and other various items, I dunno if anyone can picture this though so.... :/

These relatively new Super Bright LEDS are just as bright as bulbs, really! They are using them in traffic signals and for bus taillights here in California. They can be powered off of a couple watch batteries! They cost a couple bucks each, which is kinda expensive for LEDS, but still cheap. They don't burn out often like bulbs do.
I do like the hollow battery idea! I was thinking along the same lines myself.
If I ever get this done, I will be happy to post a pic. I am in the process of moving right now, so it might be a while, but keep posting ideas! I think someone else has surely done this before. I would love to see pics of that too!

i think i would pass on the AA blanks, cause then your still using the spring in the back.and troubles might come into play when you gotta take picks out,i still think having a small rod superglue'd or liquid nailed to the side that connects batteries to the place where the charge flows through on the side would work better
i will be making maglite case in about 1 week, same time i can get a ride to the home depot around here to buy a dremel and some blades
