Difference between Fichet 480 and Fichet 484

Postby ImSchatten360 » 4 Apr 2011 15:44

Does anyone know the difference between a Fichet 480 and a Fichet 484?

I have a door lock with a shorter and probably older type of key which only has 6 wafers.
For some impressions please have a look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvCmffspueQ
I didn't figure out how to take it apart so I dont know how the inside looks like.

Then I have a switch lock with a regular size and probably newer type of key.
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UZM1UC5-2M
The sidebar (I gut the lock at the end of the video) looks different than the one in the lockwiki (http://www.lockwiki.com/index.php/Fichet_480).
It seems to be the one on the picture at http://protectvol.online.fr/484.html.
So I guess the switch lock is a 484 and the door lock might be a 480?

I have also heard that the older ones don't have fakes. Does anyone know something about that?

Cheers

I have never actually seen a 480 but i have over one hundred 484 barrels with and without keys (not for sale  )
As far as i am aware the 484 has more wafers which also have false gates and the 480 has only six plain wafers.
The 484 has two pins in the face of the lock which are pushed in by a shoulder on the top of the key the 480 has none, i presume this is to make picking harder as i can see no other reason for them.
The 484 also has two wedge shaped hardplates in the front to make drilling harder they are copper plated the 480 has none to the best of my knowledge.
The 484 also has two hardend pins running the length of plug the 480 has none as far as i know.
hope this helps

no problem the 480 was designed in the fortys i believe and the 484 was its replacement as the 480 was easily opened it is still widely used but i think they are phasing it out, i still see it fitted to new security cabinets
