Report Post Button

There is a cool feature on most message boards. It's called the "Report Post Button". On lockpicking101, the Report Post Button is found at the bottom right corner of each post in a thread, (Above the quote button) and it looks like this: Image

If you see a post that is nonsense, spammish, obscene, or otherwise inappropriate in any way, PLEASE CLICK ON THE REPORT POST BUTTON. Don't just make a snide reply or ignore the issue, PLEASE report the post in question and move on. A mod will take care of the issue quickly this way.

There is no way the mods on this forum can read/review every post that is made. However, it's a fair assertion that every post on this forum is read by someone. So just consider yourself "assistant" mods and use the REPORT POST BUTTON when you feel it's appropriate. Not sure about a post? Report it. Its a very simple and easy way to bring a mods attention to a percieved issue.

So why am I making a global post about this today? I've been busy with retraining and a new job for a while now and I am not able to spend much time on the forums. This morning I was checking some threads and I'm finding spam that was posted back in Feb of this year. I'm also finding other threads which have multiple spam messages, one after the other, without being reported, months old as well.

This is your community. Please help the mods keep it nice, spam free, and inviting for everyone.

Thank you.

Hey unlisted, welcome back :)

I like the report button very much, and I use it every time I think is appropriate. Unfortunately in some areas, for example the faq, this useful button is missing. I don't feel like reporting via pm the spam post to a specific moderator. Should I start to do that?

Thanks :)

Yes, please report those threads to a moderator that is active on the forums.

I'll have the admin staff look into adding the report post button into the FAQ section. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. :)

Thanks for posting that unlisted. To add to it. If you see spam, please don't email us personally saying 'zomg, there's spam, come quick and delete it!' we work 8-5 and sometimes longer at our day jobs, and do this on a best effort basis. If a viagra or porn site add sits around for a couple hours and you're offended by it, then dont click it (the offending thread links) -just click the Report Post button as unlisted has instructed.

Thanks everyone!

I have noticed a lot of spam posts lately. Would it be realistic to require newly registered users to wait 24 hours after registering to make their first post? Maybe it would discourage some of the spam?

This issue has been corrected by a site admin. If anyone finds any sub forums lacking the report post button, please respond via this thread to me.

Very interresting button indeed. But now I nearly can wait till there comes the opportunity for a button marked: read posts since your last visit...

Hello Chriswingate, does it mean that I can find that link there ?
Or must I every time using it, copy and paste that link ?

Most forums have that simple option standard so you can quick follow new posts!
greetz and thanks for reply, roadmaster

Roadmaster,

This version of the forum for some reason does not have the new posts since my last visit button. A lot of us use that link Chris gave you as a Bookmark or Favorite on our Firefox or Internet Explore. No reason to copy and paste anything, just bookmark it.

Enjoy,

If you're using Firefox, the addon at http://neutronstar.org/tmp/fixlp101.xpi will put a "View posts since last visit" link at the top right of every page.
