Re: How Do I Remove Padlock Core???

Well I now have my milling machine setup and have started to experiment. I managed to drill out the 6th pin and out came the core, great stuff!

I have started to mill out a section on the front of the lock, for a first try with a milling machine it has turned out pretty good. I have a couple more sections to mill once I have removed the shackle.

I have had a good look at the padlock, I cannot seem
To see any way to remove the steel shackle from the brass padlock, is there another retaining pin that needs to be removed for this?? Or am I missing something simple?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Depending on the brand there will be another pin on the side where the shackle is when the lock is open probably somewhere about half way down the body on the opposite side to the other pins.

Thanks dls, I though something like that may be the case. I will have another look tomorrow for that one.

Well here is my very first attempt at using the milling machine and my first attempt at a cutaway example. Unfortunatly this was as far as i could go with the cutting as i was unable to remove the shackle, i could not find any retaining pins. If anyone has any other tips/advice/methods of removing the shackle it would be appreciated for future attempts.

Thanks dls, hopefully the next try will be a little better, the first is a bit rough around the edges.

Thanks for the info, I have located the retaining pin now that holds the shackle in place. Will now be able to a better job on the next job.
