Looks like a flat key for a safe deposit box.

It's for an older item of steel office furniture, probably a double door cabinet.

The lock in question being similar to this :

Whatever that old flat steel key opens, it has a very thick door... Or the lock has been intentionally set back inside the protection of the enclosure for some reason...

I don't see that key as being for a safe deposit box, as it needs to go very deep into the door to reach the lock and modern safe deposit boxes just don't have locks installed like that... They are just behind the surface of the box door... Besides the fact that it looks to have only four very crudely spaced levers...

That key is most likely for an older piece of industrial furniture -- but it could also be a key for older access panels that were secured with cheap four lever locks... There just isn't enough information to be certain...

Just a thought. It's quite evident that this key needs to go deep into the body of the lock to unlock whatever it unlocks. I was just thinking that rather than being a security feature, protecting the lock against unlawful entry, perhaps it is used for a really thick door to protect against some other type of element. I'm thinking, perhaps it could be for a safe whose purpose is to protect in case of a fire or other disaster. Even if it isn't for that, it's food for thought.

Its a flat steel locker lock probably used on a double skined door which would account dor its length. there is a curtain in the lock and a nozzel or barrel in front which contains it, this barrel comes in a variety of lengths depending on application. the notch in the bow end of the key alows it to pass the front of the barrel when turned.
