How to Get Keymarks by Medeco Rekeyed.

Postby gswimfrk » 24 Apr 2011 15:21

Hello Guys. I recently found an old set of Keymark cores laying around in a junk lock parts bin and they all are in good condition. There is only 1 problem... I don't have keys or blanks for them. I would like to put them into service again and I don't know how. :| If I take it to a locksmith who services keymark will they be able to rekey it? I know that keymark cores have restricted keyways but are the keyways the same for all keymark locks or do they vary from locksmith to locksmith? Putting it into perspective...Like the sky and air keyways in the medeco system. ( they are "open restricted keyways" and they are the same no matter which system) compared to the M3 and Freedom Series.

Thanks Guys,

Ivan

the keymark keyways are restricted, thats the whole point of the product line. i really doubt you could ever get blanks and even if you did, a medeco certified dealer shouldnt even be cutting them without the code card.

your best bet is to just keep them for picking practice :D

Aww RATS!!!

Yeah I thought about that but... I have like 10 or so and I really want to use it.

Can locksmiths rekey it for me? Or Can I send it into the manufacturer to get it rekeyed?

Thanks,

Ivan

@gswimfrk:

That all depends on exactly which KeyMark keyway your KeyMark cores are...

Some keyways are "dealer exclusive" meaning that in any given geographical area only one locksmith can service them, the blanks and cores aren't even sold to other locksmiths or distributors within the zone of exclusivity...

Since you don't have any code cards for the bitting(s) your cores are currently keyed to you would be looking at having them rekeyed if the locksmith can service that keyway and having new cards issued...

Do you know where you obtained those cores from? If you got them locally there is a good chance you would be able to locate the original locksmith who sold them and you can go to that locksmith to get them rekeyed... If you got them randomly off eBay, sorry, you probably have very nice paperweights if the keyway is not something that multiple dealers can work on...

Good luck...
