Ordering picks ove sea

Postby Oldb0b » 11 May 2011 15:39

Well, i got a confession to make..
I am no authorized locksmith.

All i did so far was to read the forums and mess around with the 3Dpicking program i found here long ago.
Now i want to take it to implementation (As a hobby on my old locks, don't worry..).
Before i go crazy on the "Add to cart" button i want to ask two questions:

1) Is it possible to order picks without license?
I'm not going to try shipping tons of picks but only 4-5 picks including wrenches.

Assuming the answer is positive
2) Should i get the slimline or the regular American picks?
I did look for an answer on the forums before i asked and the reason I'm asking again is because i didn't find an answer to the question if its no issue picking normal locks with the slimline products.

Thanks a bunch

It would be impossible for anyone to tell you whether you can legally own or use lock picking tools in your location without anyone knowing what your location is. Even then, you have to check with you local city state/province/territory and county's laws to make sure that owning lockpicks is legal for you.

That being said, most distributors of lockpicks and other locksmithing tools do not require you to have or present any kind of license or certificate in order to purchase lockpicks. Make sure you also check the site you are attempting to order tools from to see if they will ship them to your country.

As for the tools themselves, if you aren't sure which set to get and you do not or cannot get both styles, choose the slimline picks. They have finer points and are thinner so that they can be used in more physically restrictive keyway profiles. Slimline picks will also work fine in standard American and other less restrictive keyway profiles. If you're still in doubt, get the slimline picks.

Don't be so apologetic to ask questions. Some people here might give you an attitude for not looking hard enough, but most of the members here are able and willing to answer your questions.

Thanks Dr. i took your advice and ordered a slimline set
Apparently theres no law against ordering such thing but if a policeman finds out i got lockpicking tools on me he can take me to the police station (fun!)

I hope it will get here soon so i can start breaking things
