MTL i 7 pins

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

MTL i 7 pins

I found this MTL in the last lot I got from Rick
It looks like a 7x7 except for the third pin, that is very strange. It looks thinner than the others. Once the lock is almost picked, this pin becomes very stiff and I can't move it.
Any info on this lock? I looked for some info but wasn't able to find anything :(

Thanks :)

The pins are the same as the 7x7 as far as im aware femurat, just a restricted keyway.
Check there is a circlip on the back of the plug, i had a few without and that makes a world of difference as the pinscan bind with the pressure of the plug moving forward

Replacing the missing circlip on that cylinder was the first thing I did when I got it
So I can pick it normally? That third pin looks really strange... I'll try your suggestion to disassemble it and see what's inside.

Cheers :)

i for Integrator? Newer version of the 7x7 (non-telescoping); the keys have a distinct bow and different types of cuts for integrator pins.

Yep, it stands for integrator. I have one of these from rick aswell and it picked just like any other garrison for me, no problems with it. You can do it femurat, you're far better at dimples than me :D

all depends on pinning just like any other lock.
I find the deep setting pins are difficult in the multlocks (well with my tools anyway)

I was concentrated on the strange pin, and did not listen to the lock. It was trying to tell me that the oval pin was already set, and that I should test the others.
This morning I tried again to pick this mtl integrator, thanks to yours suggestions, without prejudices!

I'll post a couple of pictures of the pins and plug...

Thanks for the support and tips.

Cheers :)

Here you can see the lock disassembled, a view of the oval hole, the oval pin coming out of its hole, and the three kinds of key pin.

phew took me a while to pick one open

I found exactly the same setup as yours, third pin was oval and a stainless bullet pin in there too.

I have a couple keys somewhere i will see if the third cut looks different

keys have normal cuts.
What do you reckon the 4 chambers in the left hand side of the cylinder are for?
Trap pins installed in some locks?
Mine had a ball bearing :?

Hey Rick, please post here a picture of the key: I like pictures
The key should have an oval cut under the third pin.

My lock had a ball too, it was in the first side-hole, between the third and fourth pins. You can see it in the first picture.
I though it was a construction ball, but it's bigger than the pin holes so this is not an option.

I noticed 4 holes on the right side of the plug, and 4 corresponding grooves on the left of the cylinder... there might be some sort of relation between them? It might prevent removing the plug with the key inside the lock, if the plug is rotated 180 degrees.

Cheers :)

The 3rd pin is always the oval section pin, and always cut to a 6 depth. Integrator blanks come pre cut to a 6 in that spot. I have no idea what the idea of the oval pin is, I imagine it's a way of getting patent protection on the blanks which does nothing for actual security or pick resistance.

Chambers on the side are for side cuts, usually as part of masterkeyed suites. IIRC they are simple passive side pins.
