Hey guys. I'm new here! I stumbled upon lock picking quite literally. I was using stumbleupon and a page came up on how to shim open a lock.

After that day I became very interested in figuring out how to open locks. I started out by browsing this site and then finally figured that I needed to get some lock picks.

I made two lock picks from hack saw blades and my novice hobby in locking picking went off. I absolutely love it.

I convinced my parents to get me a lock pick set, and now I'm the proud owner of a 17 piece Southord lock pick set :)

Hey guys, and I am new here.
That wasn't too hard to guess otherwise I didn't post a reply on this topic :)

I am still quite unfamiliar with lock picking but I wanna change that, I see lockpicking more as a challange
and a skill to pick harder and harder locks. No but really I do find them quite interesting.

A combination of the things above makes me wanna learn lockpicking, I already purchased 2 locks.
and I am still making the picks and a tension wrench. It takes longer then you expect when my parents
forbid me to purchase a grinder :"") but I'm making progress slowly by using a file on a hacksaw blade (like suggested in a topic here)

When typing this I already finnished 1 pick and using a clip from a pen as a tension wrench to get started until I have the rest finished. One of the 2 locks I already disassembled so I can practice on only 1 - 2 pins first (strange enough i find 2 pins quite hard, is that normal on your first 2 days?)

I hope to learn much from you guys here and when I get better and better help some guys out myself. But first a bunch of learning ahead from me to do that ;)

Lurk, lurk, lurk. It must be a year now since I first stumbled across the LP 101 forum, but I never really had a mind to jump in to participate until now. Like so many, I was too busy learning from everyone else here! I'm still a total novice, but at least one important change inspired me to jump in here: I'm trying to help re-energize the great hobbyist community here in the San Francisco Bay Area by supporting meetups for The Open Organisation Of Lockpickers.

I'm equipment-light, still getting a handle on a generous Southord MPXS-14 set, but I'm eager to help find ways to contribute where I can here on the boards and in person. Looking forward to getting to know some folks here.

Heyo, new user here. I've been working on a project with some people on abloy locks and I thought I'd make a run at the advanced boards here for some more information. I also fool around with a variety of other locks—I've mostly played with handcut keys and disassembled locks, thought it might be nice to learn to pick as well!

Hey Everyone,

I just recently decided to look into learning how to pick locks. A while back I had picked up a set of Blue Point LPK620 for cheap off a friend on an unrelated forum. It is a 37 piece set with primarily car specific tools although it has several generic items as well. I picked it up at the time without any real desire to learn to pick, however at the low price I figured if I decided later to learn that already having a set would be a great idea.

My goal is simply be proficient at picking locks of any kind. If I end up being good I am thinking of possibly going into the business.

By the way, I love the idea of your The Open Source Lock section. Seeing a community try and better the field is just plain awesome.

I run a business that sells safes and security products and want to learn how to lockpick to further my understanding of the business. Plus I'd like to be able to get one over on the tech guys!

Hey, been picking for alittle over 9 months. I think I'm pretty solid on most of the aspects of it, just working on perfecting my form of it, and looking for more locks to pick.

Just recently SPP'd a 5 pin lock with 4 spool pins, so that's my best accomplishment so far. I also know a couple of the forum members on here as well.

hi all, I'm new to this site, so thought I'd introduce myself.

Got into this hobby through doing Search and Rescue, though it won't be greatly useful as we carry big big drills and cutters, there is the odd time in which sparks would be dangerous, and the option of carrying a casualty half a mile through tunnels vs picking your way through a door could make lockpicking quite a useful skill.

Been picking about a month now, got into around 20 different locks so far, largely 6pin euro locks and 5/6pin padlocks.

Starting on the more difficult ones now, and getting absolutely nowhere with this ASSA Ruko 2 sitting next to me right now.

Hello everyone!

I`m a total beginner with all this, and i`m really happy i found this site cause i think all the answers might just be here ;) Since English is not my first language, i had a hard time finding about cutaway locks, i was looking something like transparent and words like that :))
Anyhow i just bough my self this cheap set, at DX for like 5 euros (set of 9 picks) and i just started randomly playing with padlock(of course before that i did some reading and watching tutorials,explanations and so on, like this video of "Lockpicking Workshop at the H2K2 conference in New-York ", "Physical Security Workshop - the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - 21c3", "Lockpicking for the new millennium" and many more on youtube).
Just like digital_blue said, "..along the way they manage to set the pins and eventually, through mostly luck, the lock opens.." that`s just what happened to me, i had luck with this one padlock, and i opened it like 7 times in 2 days ;) So first things first, i`m gonna go through his begging guide, and hopefully i`ll at least get "some feeling" ;) And if i, i mean when i, come across problems, i`ll just ask u guys! So thanks in advance!
